Backstory

A short story of who I am and what I am doing

Backstory

Alright, what’s going on here, and who am I?

Straight to the point:

Hello and welcome to my blog/website. How are you?

My name is Oliver Hegarty and I am 24 years old. I was born and grew up in Ballycastle, a small coastal town in Northern Ireland.

I attended the University of Liverpool (2005-2008) graduating in Product Design and Multimedia from the Faculty of Engineering.

I enjoy working in film, and love doing things like editing, camera operation, photography, directing, motion graphics, 3D graphics, web design, 2D design, and all that funky stuff involved with films.

I am always interested in projects that are creatively challenging, fun to accomplish, and that will help me develop my film making skills. At the end of the day I really want to be proud of the work I do.

Currently I am living and working in Sankt Anton am Arlberg, in the Tirol region of Austria. I will be returning to Ireland in May.

Some other things about me:

I am currently a sponsored snowboarder and have spent the past 3 winters living in Sankt Anton am Arlberg, Austria.

I used to be a freestyle motocross rider sponsored by Red Bull a few years ago, but gave it up to go to University.

I love to surf, cycle, run, walk, dive, climb, swing from ropes, and generally try to push past any physical limits that modern society believes a person should have.

I am usually the first person to try something stupid. Sometimes it works, other times…

I also play guitar, but not so much anymore as travelling with one is hard and expensive (damn you airlines)! I also enjoy trying to play piano and drums, but only on Tuesday’s.

Photography is another big interest of mine. I have only recently gotten myself a Canon DSLR and all I can say is that I wished I would have gotten one sooner. Damn, these things are fun! As a matter of fact, almost every photo on this website has been taken with my 550D.

I believe that a dog is a man’s best friend.

I don’t have a favourite colour, they’re all awesome.

I like all things tech, and would consider myself a pretty big geek. Although I do not wear glasses.

I can find it hard to sit still for more than 127 seconds.

I love whiskey/whisky. Balvenie 12 is just a right choice. Straight up. Other favourite beverages include Guinness (naturally) and fancy European beers. Continental living, eh?
